FNO3 provides a powerful Note search facility for locating notes across all drives. The results of the search are displayed in the File List Pane
The FNO3 Search Engine can be filtered according to folders and fields.
1. Click on
on the Tools Toolbar OR Select the Tools
menu on the Main Toolbar and select Search
2. Enter the search word in the With file or note matching: box (see Search Phrase Construction)

3. To save the search results in a catalog check Save results in catalog and enter a name in the box provided

4. Click OK

Search phrase keywords are searched across all Notes fields
The current search is automatically saved in the Notes Catalog under Latest Search
Saved Search results are saved in the Notes Catalog pane under search results folder
Normal Collections rules apply to search results: Search results catalogs are pointers to the original files, any Notes added to search results files are added to the original file.
By using CTRL-A (Select All) in a search results folder and the Add or Edit Note feature text can be written against multiple files (see Writing Notes against multiple files)
Search phrases can be constructed through the use of various wildcards as shown in the table below.

| * | Used to match any number of characters. |
| ? | Used to match a single character |
| , (comma) | Used to OR keywords |
| & | Used to AND keywords |

| *fred* | Same as fred and will search for anything containing fred |
| fred???.* | Search for fred, followed by three characters, a dot and any file extension |
| fred*.*, mary*.* | Search for fred (followed by anything) dot any file extension OR mary (followed by anything) dot any file extension |
| fred & mary | Search for anything with fred in it AND anything with mary in it |
